Central Max2003 Application Postcard

Wednesday, October 1, 2008

I found this card while pruning some old files from an external drive on the Mac in my downstairs office. It's number 1 in series 1. Clicking on the image above will get you to the PDF proof document I received from Macromedia before it actually printed. Or you can use this link too.

I think these were handed out at Max2003 and they were supposed to be collectibles, kind of like trading cards. Collect them all. I think there were 3 or 4 of these initially and I am not sure if the program died there or if it continued. I never saw any new ones after series 1.

I received a Macromedia Site of the Day for this application, and I still have the code and the SWFs and the artwork for this application. It's pretty dusty & I have come a loooong way since authoring this. I remember getting some help with blast notifications from Mike Chambers because I was about to go to Cancun and was running out of time in order to get it completed in time for the conference.

It had an RSS reader for getting conference updates, etc. delivered to you, had a thing where you could enter information and on a map your room would be located for you, you could register up sessions and get notified beforehand about them, etc.

And back then some people truly disliked the "tab accordion" component. To be honest, I loved it then, and I still think it was cool now. I am surprised it hasn't been ported yet. Maybe that's something I should work on. I might still have that Central SDK laying around someplace.

I remember sessions at Macromedia (mothership SF) where they bought enough sushi and Thai food to feed an army up in that preso room... and afterwards XBox on the projector. That was the first time I met Phillip Kerman (in the waiting room up there). Ahh -- the good old days.
