Poland is magnificent

Thursday, October 8, 2009

It has been a while since my return to the United States returning from Poland and I seriously cannot get that country and it's people out of my mind.

It's a trip that went perfectly, we had special access to a great many things, we were surrounded by exquisite people, the cuisine was out of this world (don't think kielbasa and pierogie because that's not even close to what people normally eat over there), the sites utterly breathtaking, the history seeps from everything, and the devotion to Faith overwhelming.

I have been in contact with a data recovery company and they have been able to recover 250 photos so far from my ailing 8GB card. They have about 200 more or so to recover (God willing), so that I'll have a complete record of the trip.

I'll post up images and commentary once I have all my ducks in a row.

kocham Polskę z wszystkim moim serce (serdeczny).

“Flew into Krakow, spent a while there, drove to Chestohova & got special access there. A mass was said for my Dziadzia and our families Sept 23rd, we spent a few days in Warsawa, Wadowice, then Zakopane, did the salt mines, Auschwitz & Bernknau, had an awesome dinner at a home about 30 mins away from Auschwitz, went to that mineral spring place in Zakopane, back to Krakow. We went to a lot of towns I don't know the names of - went to a summer cottage of our tour guide Magdaline at night, etc.

My father and I brought a bag of soil from my Dziadzia's grave in Pennsylvania to the foot of Wawel Castle and put it in the river. I then grabbed a bunch of soil from Krakow and will place that on my Dziadzia's grave. Complete the circuit. Yes, I'm Polish.

I tear up a little bit thinking back to how awesome the trip was. Krakow is my absolute favorite. Beyond friendly people full of faith, love, and respect for their cities (ie. clean!) Women were outrageous, our driver Dawid incredible, our full-time guide Maggie amazing, etc.

I cannot wait to go back some day.”
