System Design Project: Elevating Innovation
While evaluating the current experience of the Bose Music application, we designed within the anticipated scope of our evolving corporate design system. We delivered developer-ready design assets for UI controls and screens. By seamlessly integrating advanced engineering features with refined design aesthetics, we have created a system that redefines our corporate standards of excellence.

The Project Impact
- Helped to shape brand voice and personality
- Partnered with Lead Product Designer in developing a new look and feel to reflect potential avenues for Bose future branding consolidation
- Improved feature recognition and user experience by over 70%
- Helped to grow the corporate design system with new components and features
- Led user research initiatives that influenced the anticipated direction of the product and branding initiatives
- Introduced splashes of color and a dark mode to the previously nearly monochrome design system (for those late night listening sessions)
The Operational Impact
- Led creation of new direction of the design system
- Communicated strategy and vision to teams at all hands and team meetings
- Future work pressure has been released with these new assets to allow quick modification or immediate implementation
- Built a lasting alliance with User Test and The Design Center
- Observed and helped compose useful queries with UX research - qualitative and quantitative
Collaborative Ideation: Transforming User Feedback
Overview
Over the course of a week, we conducted a series of internal meetings to meticulously address each user concern and identify known areas for improvement. Our approach was collaborative and dynamic, ensuring that every voice was heard and every idea considered.Ideation and Visualization
Using sticky notes, we grouped ideas into categories on a whiteboard, alongside some initial, quickly sketched wireframes. This visual and tactile method allowed us to explore concepts fluidly and make connections between ideas.Collaborative Platform
To capture and expand on these insights, we transferred everything into a shared Miro board. This digital space allowed team members to visit at their convenience, adding comments and suggestions. This asynchronous collaboration ensured a comprehensive and inclusive design process before formal design work began.
Curated Digital Assets: Ensuring Excellence
Asset Acquisition
To ensure the highest quality and consistency, we sourced pre-approved digital assets from the official Bose Digital Access Marketplace. These assets include fonts, color palettes, and professionally captured product and styled usage images, all vetted for quality and approved for use.Integration and Iteration
Following several rounds of internal iterations, these assets were meticulously composed and integrated into our design system. They are now available as an addendum area for designers to select from, streamlining the design process and ensuring adherence to brand standards.Implementation Status
While these design system elements have not yet been implemented into a software release, they are poised for integration pending approval. This aligns with the ongoing Bose rebranding effort, ensuring that our design elements are ready for deployment as soon as the rebranding is finalized.
Additional Results
- I took the initiative to lead this project, recognizing the need for inspection and design as Bose began its brand revitalization. Engaging with the User Test group provided valuable feedback on the current state of our design system.
- I explored the Bose Design System to assess its current state, using existing components and designs as references for creating a modified and re-branded system of elements.
- I deepened my understanding of Figma as a design and collaboration tool, expanding my expertise beyond Sketch and Illustrator, which I have traditionally used for detailed wireframes, prototypes, and final design asset delivery.
