3D Sidewalk Chalk

I plan on blowing my son's mind sometime this weekend. How? Crayola has come out with something they call 3D sidewalk chalk. You can check out the website to find more. So you draw on the driveway, and your drawing seems to float above the surface at various depths. 

How does it work? Well, the glasses are the key, not the chalk.

The glasses use something called ChromaDepth to achieve the effect. Red looks closer, blue looks further away. Other colors fall in-between. I think the chalk might be a bit brighter than normal chalk, but it's really the glasses that drive the effect. So it could be cool to just walk around the house with things like this, look at paintings you already have hanging on the walls, etc.

Now if I can only get my son to keep the glasses on his face ;)

The Chromatek glasses are very cool - I was involved in a technology based art show back in the mid 90's in Fort Lauderdale where I am from, and all the artists made artwork that integrated the Chromadepth/Chromatek glasses to add another dimension to the work. The attendees to the exhibit loved it - it was very cool.

I still have my glasses somewhere, we had nice plastic ones in addition to the cardboard ones.

If you ever played the popular video game Descent, they even had a mode that was designed for playing with the Chromatek glasses on, and it really did add tons of depth to the playback. I used to play that with my spaceOrb 360 controller for hours. ;)

Going to have to dig out my glasses and let my son play with them with his sidewalk chalk too. :)”
