Regarding the Belkin Flip
Tuesday, November 27, 2007
I cam across a really cool looking (and seemingly very easy to use) KVM switch from Belkin called "Flip" (with audio). The scenario I am looking at here:
One Mac Pro connected to a big Dell flatpanel, and a PC (proper, not BootCamp) hooked up to the KVM switch, and hooked up to another Dell flatpanel. I should in theory be able to switch one of the Dells back and forth between Mac and PC (either gaining a palette monitor for the Mac, or using the PC as well as the Mac).
Does anyone have any experience with this KVM switch? I see this will pass around audio too, which is nice since I wouldn't need to double up on desktop speakers (clutter).

I have it hooked up to a Dell 24" running 1920x1200 on two systems (both Windows XP if it matters any). My KVM switches by hitting the scroll lock key twice and then hitting an up or down arrow.
My only issue and it's a fairly small one is that when a system is booting and I'm "on" that system, then I can't switch to the other system. I guess it's got to do with when the keyboard is enabled by the system. It appears that that woudln't be an issue with the KVM that you're asking about becuase of the separate button that is attached to the KVM for switching systems.
I saw the KVM you're asking about the other day when I was searching for a new desktop system to replace an aging one that's my "home" system. and because of the separate switch and the audio switching I'm thinking about getting this one as well. One thing that I'd really really like to have is one of these that switches between dual monitor systems, as the one I have now, and the Flip is that they only handle single monitors and I'd rather not page another $60 just for the extra monitor, but I will if I have to. :-)”
